What are some of the most efficient ways to lose body fat for specific body types?
I’m not sure what body type I am, between endo-, meso-, and ecto-morphs. I am 5’10″ & 185 with a slim to medium build, but I could stand to lose about 15 pounds of body fat to be toned. How can I tell which body type I am, and once I do, what are the most efficient ways for specific body types to lose body fat? In my experience, it has always been easier for me to lose fat through free weights, push-ups, etc, rather than cardio. I could do 15 min of free weights and lose the same amount as I would if I walked 4 miles. Maybe that means I’m at least in part a mesomorph…?

You might think about trying this book called “The Movie Star Diet” by Steve Simmons. It helped me lose thirty pounds in 2 1/2 months when I didn’t think anything would work. My goal to begin with was only 20 lbs! It has a really easy plan to follow and an excellent workout as well.

I have never read any type of scientifically validated research that correlates “body type” and how to lose weight more efficiently. Do what works for you… and yes, building muscle will help you (and others) lose weight because muscle burns fat (esp. when resting, which cardio does not). However, cardio is important also… it helps you sustain athletic activity. And don’t forget eating right – water, fruits and veggies, protein to help your muscles recover, cut out the fat, sugar and salt.
Everybody who builds muscle tissue will burn more calories than a person who does cardio alone. That is because muscle burns calories on its own to maintain itself. When doing cardio, you are burning calories while you are exerting yourself. When you build muscle, the muscle continues to burn calories even during periods of rest.
In order to lose weight, you have to expend more calories than you take in. This is true no matter what your body type is.
I would start with a fitness analysis from a trainer. I have always found they are more knowledgeable when it comes to cardio/weight training and body fat index. In my own experience I was able to reach my goal. Good luck!
